Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Sued By Girlfriend’s Brother Over Defamation

Amazon chief executive officer Jeff Bezos‘ was recently in news with respect to the phone hacked controversy, but now a new twist came in his life that his girlfriend’s brother had sued the Amazon chief executive officer Jeff Bezos’  for falsely claiming for providing the intimate photographs of the couple to the National Enquirer. The American tabloid newspaper had published the reports of Bezos’ affair with Lauren Sanchez which caused an international controversy around the hacking of Amazon CEO’s phone.

Michael Sanchez filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Bezos and Gavin de Becker, a security consultant working for the top executive as per the Bloomberg report. In the filing, Michael claimed that he didn’t provide the photographs to the National Enquirer but had agreed to “cooperate strategically” to hold the reaction against his sister and Bezos.

Recently, the United Nations experts then had called for immediate investigations in Saudi Arabia’s possible involvement in hacking Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ phone. A report by The Guardian had suggested that Bezos’ mobile phone got hacked after receiving a WhatsApp message from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in 2018.

Connection to leaked images of Amazon Founder on Khashoggi’s murder

The suspected involvement of Saudi Crown Prince and his inner circle in the hacking of The Washington Post owner’s phone has opened many hidden stories and one of them was the incident of the disclosure of Bezos’ extramarital affair and murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Post’s columnist. In December 2019, Saudi Arabia court convicted eight people in the killing of The Washington Post columnist but forgave inner circle of Mohammed Bin Salman. 

David Kaye, UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression and UN Special Rapporteur, Agnes Callamard,  on summary executions and extrajudicial killings, said jointly that the evidences reveal the possible involvement of the Crown Prince in surveillance of Bezos.  In the opinion of the experts the allegations strengthened the reports of besieged surveillance of ‘apparent opponents’. 

However, the lawsuit, filed in California state court in Los Angeles on Friday (31.01.2020 ) also included the name of Bezos defendant Gavin de Becker, a security consultant hired by Bezos. Sanchez, a talent manager, claimed that de Becker worked with Bezos to spread false statements about the public disclosure of Bezos’ affair with Lauren Sanchez, Michael Sanchez’s sister.

A lawyer for Bezos said that his client has chosen to address this lawsuit in court and we will be doing that soon.  The lawyer represented Sanchez statement in the court on her behalf, she had that “Michael is her older brother. He had secretly provided her most personal information to the National Enquirer, which is truly a deep and unforgivable betrayal.

Sanchez’s lawsuit acknowledged that he had helped him in publicizing the relationship in an attempt to open the news about the relationship. Sanchez’s lawsuit concern was that, it was a drive by Bezos and de Becker to blame Sanchez for turning over graphic nude photographs, which he had denied doing. People familiar with Sanchez’s dealings told to the tabloid that he had shown a below-the-belt selfie of Bezos to the Enquirer, without providing a copy, but turned over other images.
